Todyl-y In

As I listened to the final produced episode with John Nellen, CEO of Todyl (above), I was reminded of my time as founder and CEO of Tabor Interactive (so very long ago!)Tom’s impassioned statement, “…and those are the times when you can go all in… those are the 2 AM Zoom calls… it’s like what gets portrayed in the media, in TV shows… that’s REAL!” I thought, “YupI get that.”  I remember sleeping on the office floor, driving from contractor to contractor at 4 AM to exchange hard drives (the internet was too slow then), fighting to make a deadline with technology constraints pinching the productivity funnelIt sucked, and it was so exciting, exhilarating, adrenaline pumping.  I’ve been there, done 100-hour work weeks, and I miss it from time to time. It’s gratifying to reminisce, and in the memories, the suffering has faded.

STAYING FRESH

I’ve been reading a book called Predication Machines that explains artificial intelligence theory in a way that is helping me understand all the hype and developing applications (I’ll write about that soon)Concurrently, I just completed a Spanish course for beginners (see below)It’s definitely a lot of work to keep my brain fresh. Sometimes I enjoy it – and sometimes, it’s just a commitment I keep to myself.

When What I Love Inspires Me

I love podcasting, I really do.  I’m often asked about my favorite episodes.  I don’t have one, although if you asked me which most amazed me, which was most about a certain kind of content or a had a CEO with certain qualities, I might answer that.  If you ask me which inspired me most, I’d say that the episode just produced with R & R Head Labs comes to mind.

What a privilege to be able to help launch a business with the noble motive of helping formerly incarcerated barbers find a new start in life.

Charles Smith (pictured), formerly incarcerated himself and now an Advisor to R&R Head Labs spoke with me after the recording with a profoundly kind and personal message about my calling in life.  Recalling it brings tears to my eyes as I type.

Lost Puzzle Piece a Business Lesson

My favorite part of my ProCO360 podcast interview with Jeff Eldridge of Liberty Puzzles was the conversation about how they replace puzzle pieces lost by a customer for free (great stories about the cause of missing pieces by the way!).  He said they have two full-time team members whose job it is to do that – free to the customer.

Can you find the missing piece?

I quickly did the math and asked Jeff, “Wouldn’t it be cheaper and easier to simply send those people a brand-new puzzle?

To Jeff, that’s not the point.

The point is customer engagement.  Jeff said that customers are sad when they call for a replacement piece. They spent hours with friends and family during which they collaborated, found pieces for each other, and had relationship enhancing conversations… then they were left with an ungratifying hole in the puzzle rather than a fulfilling sense of collective completion.

Liberty Puzzles fixes that sadness.  Often the lost puzzle piece can be attributed to a dog.  Liberty Puzzle offers to put a photo of the dog on the “wall of shame” and reports that back to the customer.  There are now hundreds of dogs on the wall!

So, while my idea may have been cheaper and easier, every puzzle piece lost by a customer is an opportunity for Liberty Puzzle to build a friendship.
